Stump Grinding and Removal

Why Is Stump Removal Important?

Removing a tree stump has many benefits, and you could be thinking of many reasons you wish to remove one from your property. The most common reasons and benefits of removing a tree stump include:

  • Free up space: Depending on how they have been felled, some tree stumps can be large and unsightly. Removing them frees up space in your property that can be put to good use.
  • They can spread infestations and disease: A rotting tree stump can attract vermin and infestations and cause issues by spreading an infection to other trees on your property. Removal is the only way to combat this.
  • They can still damage your property:  Tree roots can continue to grow even after the tree has been felled. This means damage by roots can still occur to sub-structures such as foundations, pipework, etc.

We had ground workers coming in the next week to do our patio so we needed a job doing quickly and well, and I can’t recommend Sean and his team enough. After giving us a reasonable quote they came in the next week to clear the whole of the back garden, did a great job and left it spotless, without them we wouldn’t have been able to go ahead with the patio so can’t thank them all enough ! Highly recommend!

I was very impressed with Sean from the very beginning, he advised us straight away on the best way forward to reduce our trees helping us gain more light into our conservatory. It was left very tidy after they had finished, and Sean and his team were extremely friendly throughout, worth every penny! Would definitely use again !

Stump Grinding FAQs

The best way to remove a tree stump is by physically grinding and removing the tree stump rather than using chemicals to remove it as this is the quickest, most effective way to remove a tree stump.

Yes although it is a slower process. The best time to remove a stump with a chemical stump killer is directly after felling otherwise the stump will need to be recut before the product is applied.

Physical stump removal is usually the best option. Ideally, the stump should be removed entirely, but alternative methods typically give satisfactory results if it’s not possible. For smaller trees, the stumps can be pulled out with a winch. For leverage, leaving a good-sized stub on the stump (up to 1.2m (4ft) high) is necessary rather than cutting it off at ground level.

Very few tree species will re-grow from residual roots – double-check with us if in doubt.
